Inside the Blob Arena Cabinet
TL;DR: Absorb pellets and smaller blobs to grow while escaping the bigger ones hunting you. Expect size math at escape velocity at a pace that's graze, chase, panic, repeat.
Blob Arena is the cell-eat-cell world in single-player form: one huge scrolling petri dish, a floor scattered with glowing pellets, and eleven rival blobs with names, appetites and no manners. You start as a modest green cell, graze pellets to put on mass, and quickly learn the arena's only law: bigger absorbs smaller, always and instantly.
Every rival is living the same life, wandering the grid, snacking, sizing you up. When one outweighs you it will chase; when you outweigh it, the chase reverses. Mass is speed's enemy, so every meal that makes you scarier also makes you slower, and the arena's balance of power shifts with every bite anyone takes.
Eaten rivals respawn fresh and hungry at the far edges, so the hunt never runs dry. Your score tracks mass and kills together, and the daily seeded arena gives everyone the same starting universe, which turns survival of the fattest into a fair sport.

Learn Blob Arena in Five Moves
Steer toward the pointer
Your blob follows the mouse or your finger; arrows and WASD work too. You always move at full speed for your size, so direction is the only thing you control.
Graze pellets to grow
The colored dots are free mass. Sweep through dense patches early to build a working size before the rivals take an interest in you.
Absorb smaller blobs
Touch a rival you clearly outweigh and it is yours, worth big points and a chunk of its mass. The red outline marks blobs that can do the same to you.
Respect the speed trade
Mass slows you down. Small blobs can outrun every threat; giants cannot outrun anything and must win by positioning instead.
Watch the whole neighborhood
The camera follows you across a much larger world. Check what is drifting in from off-screen before committing to a chase.
Score Higher at Blob Arena
Open by grazing, not hunting. The fastest safe growth in the first minute is pellet density, and the corners usually hold untouched fields.
- Never chase a blob you barely outweigh: the margin is your safety buffer, and one pellet on their side can flip the meal.
- Herd prey toward walls. Smaller blobs escape by running, and the arena edge deletes half their options.
- When a red-ringed hunter locks on, run perpendicular to its approach, not straight away; your turn radius is the one advantage of being lighter.
- Let rivals fight each other. A blob that just ate is slower and often isolated, which makes the victor your easiest meal of the game.
- Mind the respawns: eaten rivals return at the far edges sized relative to you, so the map's quiet corners do not stay quiet.
- Late game, park near pellet-rich chokepoints and ambush; a giant that chases burns time it cannot recover, but a giant that waits eats everything.
House Rules & Spin-Offs
Cell arenas
The founding form: a flat plane, drifting pellets and the pure arithmetic of who outweighs whom.
Snake arenas
A sibling branch swaps blobs for growing serpents where length, not mass, is the weapon and the weakness.
Territory arenas
Another branch scores claimed ground instead of body size; our Turf Trail machine explores exactly that lineage.
Split-and-merge tactics
Multiplayer versions let giants split to catch runners, a risk-reward mechanic that defined the genre's high-level play.
